Lori LeibowitzManaging Attorney - Housing

Lori Leibowitz

Lori Leibowitz joined NLSP in 2016 as the Project Coordinator of the Right to Housing Initiative, a collaboration of several legal services organizations working together strategically and creatively in pursuit of a community where all residents can enjoy safe, affordable, and accessible housing. In 2019 Lori became the Managing Attorney of NLSP's housing practice.  She is based in NLSP's headquarters office at 64 New York Ave. NE, Suite 180.

Lori passionately believes that everyone deserves a safe affordable place to live, and she has worked towards that goal at every level of the process from running an overflow shelter at her synagogue in Providence, RI to legislative analysis and advocacy at the National Coalition for the Homeless. While directing Jews United for Justice, Lori organized DC residents and built coalitions around increasing affordable housing in DC.
Since becoming an attorney Lori has focused primarily on housing law. Lori served as a staff attorney at Maryland Legal Aid for four years where she litigated failure to pay rent cases, security deposit cases, breach of lease cases, conditions cases, and voucher terminations. Lori also argued before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. In addition, Lori was a staff attorney in the medical-legal partnership at Children’s Law Center, and was a law clerk at both Bread for the City and the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.
Lori received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Brown University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University where she was a Public Interest Law Scholar.
