Tamara Castro Marquez

Tamara joined Neighborhood Legal Services Program in August 2019 as a Howard C. Westwood Fellow. Tamara works in the Family Unit and is based in the New York Avenue office. 

While at law school, Tamara worked as a student attorney with the Immigrant Justice Clinic. As a student attorney, she worked on a variety of immigration cases, including a successful Cancellation of Removal for a long-time resident with a young child and a grant of Convention Against Torture protections for a Central American immigrant. Tamara also served low-income immigrant families through her work with Ayuda as a recipient of the Hispanic Bar Association of DC Foundation Fellowship. Other organizations that she worked with include Maryland Legal Aid Bureau and Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).

Tamara earned her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. During her time there, as part of the Human Rights Brief, an online publication covering international human rights law, she was a writer covering the Americas and was later the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights Editor. Before law school, Tamara worked with local communities with the National Hispanic Council on Aging and Community Affairs with Embassy of El Salvador. Tamara graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in Government and Politics and a B.A. in Spanish.
