Ashlee Johnson

 Ashlee Johnson joined NLSP in 2016 as a Staff Attorney in the Barriers to Employment practice. Her work focuses on eliminating legal issues that may serve as a barrier to employment, such as criminal records, employers’ improper use of credit information, and discrimination. She is based in the NLSP Headquarters office. 

 
Ashlee obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she was a member of the Pro Bono Honor Society, the Wake Forest Journal of Law and Policy, several student organizations, and recipient of a Public Interest Law Organization Grant for her work experience within legal services. While at Wake Forest, Ashlee worked with Community Legal Services and was a student attorney in multiple legal clinics, including the Wake Forest Innocence and Justice clinic, where she investigated inmates’ claims of innocence and pursued avenues for exoneration where appropriate. Ashlee also worked for an employment law firm on discrimination cases and served as a Guardian ad Litem with The Children’s Law Center of Central NC, representing the best interests of children in high conflict custody and domestic violence cases. She is committed to advocating for the rights of marginalized and vulnerable populations.
 
Ashlee obtained her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Delaware with a major in English and triple minors in Legal Studies, Human Development & Family Studies, and Black American Studies.
