Neighborhood Legal Services Program 50th Anniversary Gala:
Celebrating 50 Years of Advocacy for D.C.’s Underserved Residents

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported NLSP's 50th Anniversary Gala on October 2nd, 2014 at the Blackburn Center at Howard University.

The Gala was a great success! 300 NLSP supporters, alumni, clients and community members attended the event to celebrate 50 years of providing free legal services to DC's low-income residents.

Guests arrived at the Howard University Blackburn Center Hilltop Lounge for a reception and silent auction. Musician Freddie Dunn provided great music on the terrace as guests bid on auction items, enjoyed appetizers and socialized.

Emcee Leon Harris of ABC 7/WJLA and NLSP Executive Director Hannah Lieberman welcomed guests to a dinner program featuring an NLSP video, a keynote speech by United States Attorney General Eric H. Holder, and award presentations.

The Pioneer of Justice award was presented to Edgar Cahn and the late Jean Camper Cahn for their tireless commitment to making sure that our justice system is responsive to the needs of the least powerful, and for their innovative concept of neighborhood-based legal offices.

The Enduring Impact award was presented to the law firm of Covington & Burling, LLP for its longstanding commitment to legal services and NLSP as a pro bono and advocacy partner, donor of rotating associates for 45 years, and the sponsor of the Howard Westwood fellowship program.

Emcee Leon Harris also mentioned NLSP’s Gala and work on the WJLA 11 pm news.

Thank you to all attendees, 50th Anniversary Gala Sponsors, Honorary Co-Hosts, and donors for celebrating Neighborhood Legal Services Program’s enduring legacy and continuing impact, and helping us to ensure a secure and vibrant future protecting the most fundamental rights of DC’s underserved residents.
