Most Americans do not have a will despite the fact that this is the most economical and efficient way to make sure that your possession go to the family members and friends of your choice. You do not have to be wealthy to make a will. Wills can be used for many reasons such as making gifts of personal possessions to friends, passing on treasured family keepsakes to relatives, or making donations to charities.

This Senior Awareness Month, attorneys from Neighborhood Legal Services Program will be holding one-hour workshops at Southwest Neighborhood Library on important considerations for preparing a will and other important advance planning documents such as living wills, healthcare power of attorney and financial power of attorney documents. Participants will also learn more about the free legal help available to low-income District residents for preparing these important documents.
