50th Anniversary Gala Coverage and Photos

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported NLSP's 50th Anniversary Gala on October 2nd, 2014 at the Blackburn Center at Howard University.

The Gala was a great success, raising more than $180,000. 300 NLSP supporters, alumni, clients and community members attended the event to celebrate 50 years of providing free legal services to DC's low-income residents. Keynote speaker United States Attorney General Eric H. Holder and emcee Leon Harris welcomed guests to an evening featuring a reception, silent auction, dinner, and award presentations. The Pioneer of Justice award was presented to Edgar Cahn and the late Jean Camper Cahn for their tireless commitment to making sure that our justice system is responsive to the needs of the least powerful, and for their innovative concept of neighborhood-based legal offices. The Enduring Impact award was presented to the law firm of Covington & Burling, LLP for its longstanding commitment to legal services and NLSP as a pro bono and advocacy partner, donor of rotating associates for 45 years, and the sponsor of the Howard Westwood fellowship program.

Photos from the event can be found on the Gala page and on our Facebook album.

The event was featured in the Legal Times in a piece by Zoe Tillman: Holder Celebrates D.C. Legal Services Group's 50th Anniversary and on Legal Bisnow: Holder Celebrates NLSP at 50.

Emcee Leon Harris also mentioned NLSP’s Gala and work on the WJLA 11 pm news.

Thank you to all attendees, 50th Anniversary Gala Sponsors, Honorary Co-Hosts, and donors for celebrating Neighborhood Legal Services Program’s enduring legacy and continuing impact, and helping us to ensure a secure and vibrant future protecting the most fundamental rights of DC’s underserved residents.
