Daraja Carroll

Daraja joined Neighborhood Legal Services Program in October 2023. She is a Staff Attorney in both NLSP’s Economic Security and Brief Services Units.

Before NLSP, Daraja worked with the Policy Team at the ACLU of DC where she advocated for various criminal justice related reforms, including holistic improvements to the D.C. jail. Before joining the ACLU, Daraja served as the Access to Justice Fellow for Legal Aid DC. Her fellowship project focused on advancing systemic changes in administrative and court procedures and ensuring all litigants in the District have equitable access to justice, regardless of whether they are represented by counsel.

Daraja graduated from American University Washington College of Law in May of 2021 and received recognition as an Exceptional Pro Bono Service Graduate upon graduation. During law school, Daraja served as a student attorney in the Civil Advocacy Clinic, President of the Black Law Students Association and legal intern for Montgomery County Public Schools, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and the National Center for Youth Law.
