We will consider handling the following consumer problems for clients who meet our income guidelines:
Consumer Law issues such as
• Collections
-Improper collections practices
-Garnishment of wages or public benefits
-Harassment by debt collectors
-Illegal fees or excessive interest rates
• Unfair and deceptive acts and practices
• Consumer reporting issues including inaccuracies and disputes
• Identity theft, fraud, and scams
• Student Loans
• Predatory lending
• Unauthorized transactions and consumer banking disputes
• Wrongful termination of public utilities
We may offer advice and brief services for other consumer issues. If we cannot assist you, we will help find an organization that can.
NLSP also helps staff the Small Claims Resource Center in DC.
The Small Claims Resource Center provides legal and procedural information to Plaintiffs and Defendants involved in Small Claims Court proceedings in the District of Columbia, as well as to individuals considering filing actions in Small Claims Court.
